YMCA Madagascar: Capacity building for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation
Since 2023, Adapt40 and YMCA Madagascar have worked together to strengthen disaster preparedness and climate resilience across vulnerable communities. Adapt40 supported preparations for the 2022/23 cyclone season in Madagascar through technical advice, essential equipment, and bilingual training programmes that equipped staff and volunteers with practical skills in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.
The partnership has continued to grow, with Adapt40 funding preparedness equipment for community organisations ahead of the 2024/25 cyclone season and delivering advanced training in November 2025 to 43 YMCA Madagascar staff and volunteers on risk assessment, vulnerability analysis, and community-based early warning systems. This capacity building has enabled YMCA Madagascar to conduct their first community-based risk mapping, and shifted their disaster risk reduction work towards anticipatory action.
