Enhancing the Effectiveness of Montenegro’s Protected Areas System: Strengthening Legal and Policy Frameworks and Institutional Capacity

Adapt40 worked in Montenegro to strengthen legal and policy frameworks and institutional capacity to improve the effectiveness of MNEs’ protected areas. The wider consortium prepared a range of guidelines in a toolkit for Protected Area Managers, and the Adapt40 team led on a set of guidelines on Climate Change Adaptation Planning for Protected Areas.

The guidance enables Protected Area Managers to conduct Climate Change Risk and Vulnerability Assessments for a range of Protected Area classification types, and provide guidance on how to select and evaluate adaptation options suitable to each protected area. This guidance supports the development of future Protected Area Management Plans, deeply embedding climate resilience principles.
