Enhancing the Effectiveness of Montenegro’s Protected Areas System: Strengthening Legal and Policy Frameworks and Institutional Capacity

2025-Ongoing

Adapt40 are working in Montenegro to strengthen legal and policy frameworks and institutional capacity to improve the effectiveness of MNEs’ protected areas. The wider consortium are preparing a range of guidelines in a toolkit for Protected Area Managers, and the Adapt40 team are leading on a set of guidelines on Climate Change Adaptation Planning for Protected Areas.

The guidance will enable Protected Area Managers to conduct a climate change risk and vulnerability assessment for a range of Protected Area classification types, and provide guidance on how to select and evaluate adaptation options suitable to each protected area. This guidance will support the development of future Protected Area Management Plans, deeply embedding climate resilience principles.
