Resilient Settlements for the Urban Poor (RISE UP)
UN Habitat: 2024 - 2026
Resilient Settlements for the Urban Poor (RISE UP) is UN-HABITAT's flagship programme which seeks to leverage large scale investment to build resilience and increase the socio-economic prospects of the urban poor across global hotspots of vulnerability.
Adapt40 worked with UN-HABITAT on Accelerating the Implementation of the Paris Agreement by Building the Climate Resilience of the Urban Poor in Bolivia, Colombia, Ethiopia, Jordan, Lao PDR, Madagascar, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Tunisia a new project within the RISE UP programme, supported by AECID and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Sub-Fund. The project aims to identify multilayered and interconnected climate, urban, spatial, socio-economic and biodiversity risks and vulnerabilities of the world's most vulnerable communities in secondary and tertiary cities.
The Adapt40 team managed the project and provided the technical oversight and inputs into the multilayered vulnerability assessments, (see example here from Kerkennah, Tunisia). The team provided support to each UN country office, as well as local governments and stakeholders to identify converging vulnerability hotspots. The team supported with the identification of data sets, data collection, GIS and delivery of the vulnerability assessments, as well as the development of Urban Resilience Action Plans (see example for Sahab Municipality, Jordan here).
In addition, Adapt40 have supported UN Country Offices with proposal development for partners including ICLEI and Government of Japan.
